  • Dear Jerry,

Do you sell your beaded works? Do you remember how hectic it was just before Christmas? Wondering what happened? Do not worry January; February and March are always the slowest months of the year. It will start to get crazy again before Mother's day.

Take this time to relax. Look at the latest catalogs and try out some new styles. It will get busy again. Then you will wish you had some down time.

    Peruvian Ceramic Beads

We have Dragonfly's, Ladybugs, Butterflies, Frogs, Chili Peppers and a variety of Sports beads.

These were very popular at Christmas when we had the Santa, Snowmen and Candy Cane Beads. Therefore, we decided to expand our line of these Peruvian Ceramic Animal, Sports and Figurine Beads.

Peruvian Beads are Hand-painted in family run workshops. Sizes and painted colors and designs are approximate; there will be some variation among beads.

[jerry] I've worked with ceramics and pottery for over 15 years. Looking at these beads, I can see that they are hand painted. They were probably cast in a quick release mold. There is no mold line, but they are too perfect for each one to be hand made.

    New Contest
You order Alphabet Beads and sometimes a few of them are bad. Well I order a lot of Alphabet Beads. How many bad ones do you think I get?

We are having a contest - Guess how many Alphabet Beads are in the bowl and win $50.00 Cash.

Clues : 1. According to my bathroom scale this is about 13 Pounds of Silver Beads. 2. It is a mix of all sizes but most of them are the small 4mm beads. 3. Each 5mm Alphabet Bead weighs about .8 grams -- you do the math.. 4. I made that bowl myself.. That doesn't really help. I just thought I would throw that in.

    Bead Artists
A few people have sent me their bios and pictures. However, I would like a lot more.

It is free. No Cost. What it is not: This is not a place to sell items. - It is not a link farm. Example: You link to me so that I will link to you. - Also I would like to avoid linking to commercial sites, like sundance etc.

What I would like to show are pieces that you make using the same type of products that I sell. This will be a place to display your work, so pick pieces that you are proud of. People like to know how to get started, Share you experiences with other beaders. How you come up with Ideas, where you sell stuff, etc.

Give me original works, not something copied out of vogue magazine. I may not know the difference but somebody will.

Keep watching for new stuff. If you do not see what you want, drop me a line. Maybe we can get it for you.

    Beadmaking in India.
India is the "mother of beads." She gets that honor because she is home to three major bead industries whose products have been leaders in the global bead commerce. (Glass, Stone and Clay)

Since 2500 B.C., the beadmaking centers have changed, but the source for agates and carnelians has always been in the old riverbeds of the lower Narmada River. These ancient centers of agate beadmaking are close to the modern center, Cambay in Gujarat state.

Not only has the source of the stones remained the same, but also the way in which they were turned into beads has changed very little over 4000 years. In this century, electricity has been added to a few steps (grinding and polishing).

The last important technological change before that was the introduction of the double-tipped diamond drill (even today powered by a hand-driven bow drill), a discovery made over 2000 years ago.

    The Specials for March
The most common Birthstone for March is Aquamarine. I have been having trouble getting any kind of good quality Aquamarine for a reasonable price.

I just got a shipment in and only about three-quarters of what I got in is worth selling.

All products that have Aquamarine in the name are 5% off for this month.

When working with Aquamarine you will noitce that your fingers turn blue. This is from the dye in the thread, not from the Aquamarine.
