Dear Jerry,
Has anybody seen that Staples commercial with
Alice Cooper? His daughter is all grumbling and
frowning and says I thought you said, "school is
out forever." I love those things.
The summer is winding down. Here in central
Florida school starts in the next couple of
weeks, and everybody is trying to make time for
last minute get-a-ways. We had a good summer; we
actually managed to get out of town a couple of
times. Now it is time for me to get back to work.
Stick Pearls
We recently added a line of top grade fresh
water stick pearls to our inventory. I have seen
these pearls in top selling combinations with
other gem beads or alone for an exotic tropical
looks.
The phrase Biwa pearls can only be used for
freshwater pearls taken from lakes and rivers of
Japan (according to the Federal Trade
Commission, USA). Some Internet sites call any
Chinese freshwater stick pearls, Biwa Pearls. In
my opinion, this is deceptive

Fall and Winter 2004 - 2005
Jewelry - Long, linear earrings compete with
chandeliers for the #1 spot.
The love of colors and brights will continue
into the cool months, showing up in an assorted
mix of prints and patterns for styles that are
simple yet dynamic. The focus is still on retro
and vintage themes; the emphasis is on the
desire for bold creativity and values based on
tradition. Retro colors strive for a feeling of
optimism, based on the 1950's and 60's, with a
bit of the 70's, since this is where most people
felt it last.

The Specials for August |
 |
|
The Birthstone colors for August is Peridot.
Peridot is perhaps derived from the French word
peritot
which means unclear, probably due to the inclusions
and cloudy nature of large stones. It could also be
named from the Arabic word faridat which means gem.
In either case, peridot has been mined as a
gemstone
for an estimated four thousand years or better,
and is
mentioned in the Bible under the Hebrew name of
pitdah. Peridot gems along with other gems were
probably used in the fabled Breastplates of the
Jewish
High Priest, artifacts that have never been
found. The
Greeks and Romans refered to peridot as topazion
and
topazius respectively and this name was later
given to
topaz, to end the confusion with the two gems.
Historical legend has it that peridot was the
favorite
gemstone of Cleopatra. Pliny wrote about the green
stone form Zagbargad Island in 1500 B.C.. Even
until
recently have jewelers used the term
"chrysolite" (latin
for golden stone) in refering to peridot gems
for some
reason. This term has also been used to refer to
other
gemstones, of a more golden color.
All products that have Peridot in the name are
5% off for this month.

I thought I would drop you a line concerning the
Swarovski Cantaloupe beads.
They do turn gray, although I think silver would
be a better description. The silver color is
transparent and it shoots all the colors of the
rainbow. I wish Swarovski would make a bead in
this color, not that the green isn't nice on the
Cantaloupe, but the silver with fire blazing
from them are incredible.
I think the easiest way to see this color is to
put the beads by a window, not in direct
sunlight. I found it making a necklace in front
of a window in my den when I turned off the
halogen light I usually use when beading. I was
just floored by the shooting colors. You have to
see it, it is amazing.
Love your site, love your selection and love
your prices. Wish I had found you a long time
ago. I have also sent your site to all my
friends who bead, including my daughter.
