  What is Marketing?

Marketing is everything you do to place your products or services into the hands of potential customers. Marketing is about getting people to talk about your products. It is all about creating a "Buzz" on the street. The idea is to get your customers to sell your products instead of you.

As simple as the marketing concept is, there have been thousands of books written about the various ways to market products. It is easy to be overwhelmed with marketing decisions.

How many of these sound familiar?

Newspaper ads, Magazines, Remnant Ad Space, Classifieds, Yellow pages, Radio, TV, Infomercials, Billboards, Subways, Signs, Buses, Blimps, Small Ads, Business Cards, Brochures, Banners and signs, Posters, Newsletters, Circulars, Take one boxes, Contest boxes, Door hangers, Gift Certificates, Order forms, Stationary, Promotions, Contest and Sweepstakes, Frequent buyer plans, Packaging, POP, Premiums and Special gifts, Tradeshows, Telemarketing, 1-800 / 900 numbers, Phone hold, Direct sales, Indirect sales: Retail, Indirect sales: Wholesale, Indirect sales: Multi-level marketing, Public Relations, Product Placement, Media exposure, Media kits, Press releases, Targeted Media, Customer mailing lists, Direct Mail, Inserts, Catalogs, Internet, Web sites, Banner ads, links, Search Engine Placement.

There are dozen of "coined" marketing terms such as Guerilla Marketing, Extreme Marketing, Grassroots Marketing, Word-of-Mouth and Viral Marketing.
What is Guerilla, Extreme or Grassroots Marketing?

These types of marketing include any activity that uses a means other than traditional media to communicate your business’s name and products to your prospective customers. It could be an unusual publicity stunt, a free product sampling, a special event, or even a logo placed in an unexpected location. Also called extreme marketing, grassroots marketing, or even feet-on-the-street marketing, a guerilla campaign has no preset rules or boundaries.

What is Word-of-Mouth or Viral Marketing

The term Viral Marketing has caught on and it does not look like it is going away. Viral Marketing is when one person tells another about your business, product, service, or idea. Just like a virus, word of your good deal spreads from one person to another, it is Word-of-Mouth.

Before there was an Internet, eBay was still Fun and Dinosaurs ruled the earth. There always seemed to be one thing that all the kids had that you wanted. This is what you are trying to do with GrassRoots Marketing, you want your products to be seen and talked about.
