  Marketing Weapons -- Word-of-mouth / Viral Marketing

This is the least expensive and the most credible form of advertising. Word-of-Mouth marketing is one of the oldest and most powerful forms of advertising.

Some people think word-of-mouth is something that just "happens"--like the weather--and they let it take its own course. However, if you want to be successful at developing word-of-mouth for your business, you should be as organized and thoughtful about it as you are about other types of advertising and marketing.

1. Don't be a cave dweller. Get out and meet people.

2. Know how to ask for the referral or a sale. There are specific techniques you can learn and develop that will help you hone your ability to ask for the referrals and sales you want. One technique is to ask, "Who do you know who wears this kind of jewelry?" It is as simple as that.

3. When attending events, bring the right tools with you. These include: an informative name badge, business cards and a business card carrying case to hold others' cards.

4. Spend time developing your selling skills. Read books and articles on selling, listen to tapes, and talk to people that sell well. Selling is an acquired skill.

5. Invest time in developing a 60-second message about your business that explains what you sale. Try to think of a "memory hook" --a brief, ear-catching phrase that so vividly describes what you do that people will be able to visualize it with their eyes.

6. Talk less and listen more. Remember that a good sales person has two ears and one mouth and uses them accordingly.
Oh, and Don't Forget to Ask For the Sale...
