Submission Guide - A Call For Articles

Jerry Smith Beads Author Guidelines
Jerry Smith Beads is a Website devoted to the selling of beads and beading supplies. We are fascinated with helping other beaders with techniques, projects and designs relating to beads and accessories. Our customers include both professional and amateur enthusiasts who find pleasure in making beautiful things.

Articles can include: Letters, News, Reviews, Tips & Techniques, and Patterns. Actually anything that may be of interest to other beadworkers goes.

We are looking articles dealing with techniques, projects, people, and design in the areas of jewelry, accessories, and clothing.

Our Viewpoint

Our emphasis is on learning to design jewelry and accessories and gaining the skills necessary to produce professional results. Most articles will include projects and patterns. We prefer projects that offer alternatives: in fashion -- youthful, mature, and sophisticated styles in design.

We have showcases for artists working with beads; we like to include information about artist's life, as well as their methods of work. In addition, we have areas on the website devoted to marketing and fashion education -- exploring trends in accessory fashion.

Article proposals

If you want to write an article for Jerry Smith Beads, begin by sending me a suggestion. Go over the main points your subject, of your article in two or three paragraphs. Include an outline or a descriptive list of the topics and points you plan to cover. I will review your pitch and do my best to respond within three weeks.

Assurance of Original Work

The author further indicates that the material submitted is his/her original work and that it has not been previously published elsewhere in its final form (either in printed or electronic form) and is not for consideration for publication elsewhere. Assurance of Permission for Other Material The author also indicates that he/she has obtained permission for and has acknowledged the source of any illustrations, diagrams or other material included in the material submitted of which he/she is not the original copyright owner.

Manuscripts

When we ask you to proceed to a finished article, I will discuss a deadline for the text and supporting materials. For reference, please include all photos and drawings that you think the piece requires, captioned and keyed to the text. The more good-quality visual information you can provide, particularly photos of projects that give step-by step information about how to make the item or show the tricky parts, the better the web page we can produce together.

Please use Microsoft Word to edit your article. Please check for grammar and spelling, since I am terrible at both of these. Images should be in ".JPG" or ".GIF" format, give clear indication of the file name of the image with bracket where needs, and then attach them.

I will evaluate your article and get back to you as soon as possible -- my goal is within six weeks. I may accept the article immediately and tentatively schedule it to be announced for the monthly newsletter. On the other hand, I may reject the article. Acceptance of your article is not a promise to publish it but a good-faith acknowledgement of my intention to do so.

In most cases, you will see an edited version of you article manuscript before it is available on the website so that you can review it for accuracy and answer any outstanding questions.

I would be delighted to discuss your article ideas with you or answer your questions.
